Around here lately…

Sunflowers always make me happy, and I’ve been working on a few new sunny paintings! This one is available now on my website, and more will be ready soon. So far they are all 11x14 and smaller. I’m curious - what size paintings do you usually prefer? Drop me a comment and let me know.

Collage has been calling my name again, but in a slightly different way. Inspired by Marabeth Quin, I have been playing around with layering transparent collage papers. Here’s an example of a floral in my big 11x14 sketchbook. I used mostly tissue paper, and then watercolors and Inktense Blocks on top.

I’ve also been playing in this little handmade concertina sketchbook with some very loose abstract landscapes, combining paint and transparent collage. It is a continual work in progress. I just add little bits here and there when the spirit moves me. I don’t know if it will ever really be complete, because a finished artwork is not the goal. It is purely experimental and fun. I don’t give a lot of thought to my choices, it’s very intuitive. I just enjoy the process and am sometimes surprised at where it takes me.

I have been all over the place with my art lately, and I am perfectly fine with that. After I finished my collection of small floral paintings (there are still a few left on my website, by the way), I didn’t have any commitments or demands on my creative time, so I have been free to play and follow my curiosity. Mostly I have been working in my many sketchbooks. The video below gives you a little tour of the pages I have done recently.

That’s all for now. I hope you are finding time for some creativity in your world! Thanks for reading!
